New reports that Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon has a release clause in his contract have raised eyebrows on Tyneside.
The Magpies famously added a £100m release clause to Bruno Guimarães’ last contract, and according to iNews, Gordon also included a similar clause in his contract last year.
The England international was linked with a move from St James’ Park last year as the club struggled with profit and sustainability regulations.
Former Everton star Gordon has been linked with a move to Liverpool. However, with the sale of Elliott Anderson and Yankuba Minte, manager Eddie Howe’s side resolved their financial problems and allowed Gordon to remain at the club.

The winger’s form has been unimpressive since then and it’s no surprise that no top Premier League clubs are currently considering signing him.
However, even if they are considering signing him in the near future, the Magpies have added a huge release clause to his contract, which is thought to be in the region of £100m.
But one thing is for sure: no matter how Gordon is currently playing, and no matter how disappointing his form is for Newcastle, the Premier League side will likely receive a big transfer fee for Gordon.
While release clauses are common in some leagues, they are less common in England, so the numbers and timing have drawn attention.
Newcastle United not considering selling Gordon
