Real Madrid are rumored to be interested in signing Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck.
The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season but could be on the move in the coming months. He has not yet renewed his contract with the German club.
Defensa Central reports that Real Madrid were keen to sign him but believe the German defender will head to Liverpool instead.
Will Nico Schlotterbeck replace Konate?
It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can make a deal. They need to sign a quality defender to replace Ibrahima Konate, who will be a free agent in the summer. He has not signed a contract extension with the Premier League champions and Liverpool expect to lose him in the coming months.
The German defender could be an ideal replacement. He has proven his quality in the Bundesliga and has the ability to succeed in the Premier League. Liverpool are also closely linked with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
Liverpool could use Schlotterbeck
It’s clear they need a quality central defender for the coming months. It will be interesting to see who they end up with. They lack quality and depth in their defensive unit. The only player they can trust at the back is Virgil van Dijk. They need to bring in a reliable partner for him, and Schlotterbeck could be ideal.
On top of that, the Dutch international is entering the twilight stages of his career and Liverpool will also need to start planning for a future without him. They may need to invest in two central defenders soon.
