Ross Wilson ‘delighted’ to be in NewcastleNewcastle send scouts to keep an eye on Charlie Cresswell

Newcastle United have turned their focus to the transfer market, reportedly sending scouts to keep an eye on the defensive star who kept Nick Waltemaid quiet.

Ross Wilson ‘delighted’ to be in Newcastle

It was an important international break for the Magpies. As well as the likes of Walte Maid and Anthony Gordon continuing to do well on international duty, there has also been an interesting move by players returning to St James’ Park with the recruitment of Ross Wilson from Nottingham Forest.

The sporting director hopes to follow in the footsteps of Dan Ashworth and Paul Mitchell and help guide the Magpies through a more structured transfer window come January.

“I’m really happy to be here at Newcastle United. This is a very special club and I fully understand the passion, ambition and expectations of our amazing supporters and the owners’ ambition and desire to continue to develop and build an even stronger Newcastle United.”

“Our conversations with the owners have been very positive and we are in regular contact with Eddie Howe and David Hopkinson.

“I feel the trust, unity and collaboration that we have built is already strong and I believe that coming together as a team will be crucial as we continue to move the club forward together,” said Ross Wilson after joining Newcastle.

The big question is how quickly he can make his mark. Newcastle spent big in the summer to bring in the likes of Woltemade and Anthony Elanga, but that was more of a late purchase than a detailed plan, and something Wilson needs to change.

With the Reds looking to balance their European and domestic fixtures these days, further reinforcements may not be a bad idea, with Newcastle scouts reportedly already eyeing potential defensive reinforcements.

Newcastle send scouts to keep an eye on Charlie Cresswell

As reported by The Boot Room’s Graham Bailey, Newcastle scouts have been spotted monitoring Charlie Cresswell ahead of a potential January move. The £15m England Under-21 international has built on his performances last season to make another strong start for Toulouse in Ligue 1 and is now attracting the attention of several Premier League clubs.

Described as “strong” by Under-23 scout Antonio Mango, Cresswell particularly impressed at the Under-21 Euros in the summer, scoring for Walte Maid in the final against Germany.

Woltemade failed to create a single chance and was unable to complete a dribble as England ran out 3-2 winners. Meanwhile, Cresswell contributed 14 times on defense and was never dribbled through. It was a fantastic performance from the former Leeds United man.

With Fabian Schaal and Dan Byrne both now 33 years old, signing the Toulouse defender for a fee worth just £15m could quickly turn into the ultimate bargain move for the St James’ Park players.
