Alexander Isak’s quest to leave Newcastle was a hot topic throughout the summer, and he ultimately ended up joining Liverpool. However, his start at Anfield was very lackluster, with only a goal (against Southampton in the Carabao Cup) and one assist in six competitive games.
Isak has come under fire for disappointing performances in recent weeks, but Liverpool have stressed that the new No. 9 is not 100% since joining in the late summer. However, it will no longer be available.
Arne Slot confirms Isak is near 100% match sharpness
Speaking to the media ahead of Liverpool’s game against Man United, Arne Slott (via Fabrizio Romano) revealed that Isak is now close to full fitness. It is therefore his belief that British record signings have come to be judged by his performance.
“Alexander Isak has had five or six weeks of pre-season… so he is close to the level he should be in terms of fitness. We will now be able to judge him in a fair way.”
Understandably, there was a lot of pressure on Isak at the beginning of his Liverpool career. Not only because he is the most expensive player in Premier League history at £125m, but also because Hugo Ekitike, who has been brilliant since joining from Eintracht Frankfurt, was strangled to start as a slot striker.
It will be interesting to see how Isak performs for Liverpool over the next few weeks, starting with the game against Man United at Anfield. A goal or two in this encounter will no doubt endear him to the club’s supporters and relieve some of the pressure that has been on his shoulders over recent months.
