Much attention has been focused on Liverpool’s intention to sign Ibrahima Konate to a new deal in recent weeks, but there is another important defender whose situation also needs to be addressed, Andy Robertson.

Robertson, who has been an icon at the club since joining from Hull in 2017, has lost his regular starting role this season but remains a hugely important figure to Arne Slott. However, his current contract expires at the end of June, so there is a possibility that he will leave next summer.

According to Football Insider, manager Pete O’Rourke has revealed that Liverpool plan to negotiate a deal with Robertson, although there is a risk that Robertson will leave Anfield at the end of the season.

“I’m sure there will be talks between Robertson and Liverpool about whether a new contract can be worked out, but the longer the talks go on, the more unlikely a new deal will be agreed. “Clearly, the possibility is open that Robertson could sign a pre-contract in January or leave on a free transfer next summer, as his close mate Trent Alexander-Arnold did when he had the opportunity to move to Real Madrid.

“Look, even if Andy Robertson doesn’t sign a new contract with Liverpool, there will be no shortage of offers for him. The Scotland captain and Liverpool vice-captain have been playing at the highest level for a number of years, but Liverpool will want to sit down with him and agree some sort of new contract.”

Robertson was heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid over the summer, and although he remains, the La Liga giants could try to sign him again in 2026. Liverpool are running out of time to reach an agreement of their own with the Scotland international, as Robertson is expected to be able to agree a pre-contract in January.
