Alexis Mac Allister suspended as Man United maintain lead against Liverpool (Sky Sports)
With Manchester United leading 1-0 in the first minute of today’s match at Anfield, Liverpool may have some validity in questioning the referee’s early decisions.
Brian Mbeumo scored the visitors’ early lead, but a video from Sky Sports in the X-post below shows that a collision of heads saw Alexis Mac Allister fall to the pitch.
Was this the right decision? Watch the clip below as Mac Allister was sidelined with a head injury but United were allowed to continue playing as Mbeumo scored…
Mbeumo finished well from the angle and it was a great final ball set up by Amad Diallo, but it’s easy to see why some Liverpool fans are upset.
Alexis Mac Allister plays for Liverpool despite clash of heads
Mac Allister was able to continue playing for Liverpool, but the injury was clearly serious enough that he subsequently required a bandage on his head, as the photo below shows.
The Argentina international is an important player for LFC so they hope he can continue to play the full 90 minutes, but it seems far from ideal that he took the first blow to the head.
But for now, at the time of writing, Liverpool are still on the back foot and will be hoping for a bit more luck after this unfortunate opening.
A penalty appeal was subsequently rejected, including Kodi Gakpo hitting the post.
