Rangers players and staff were informed of the selection of a new manager at the weekend, and Heart & Hand shared insight into the message given by the club.
Rolle named new Rangers manager
The Gers took some time to bring in a new manager, with Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat both holding out, a blow for the Scottish Premiership side.
Danny Rolle will replace Russell Martin at Ibrox, with the 36-year-old most recently managing Sheffield Wednesday, where he orchestrated a miraculous run to the Championship in 2023/24, before further stabilizing the team last season.
The German manager is an exciting young manager with fresh ideas and a ball-playing approach, and while Rangers’ job has become something of a poisoned chalice, supporters will be keen to see Rohr be the right man to lead the club into the future.
Rangers players were informed of their new manager on Sunday.
According to Heart & Hand PodcastRangers players were told on Sunday night that a new manager had been chosen before Rolle was revealed as their successor, with club leaders already said to have been close to a deal over the weekend, with only the details left to be worked out on Monday.
Any Gers fan will be anxious about who the club will appoint, given the failures of Philippe Clement and Martin’s reigns.
For some, a more experienced manager than Rohr was needed – Sean Dyche had been mentioned but he is set to become Nottingham Forest’s next manager instead – but for others, the German is a young manager who learned from Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich and has a lot to offer.
Rangers supporters should take heart from what Barry Bannan recently said about him after growing up alongside each other in Wednesday’s game.
“If he’s appointed, I have no doubt he’ll come in and get results right away. For me, he’s hanging out with some of the best players I’ve ever worked with in my career. I know Glasgow can be a difficult environment because of the Old Firm expectations, but he’s the type of guy that people respond to, so I’m hoping he’ll really give his all.”
Hopefully this is the moment for Rangers to change for the better after a disastrous start to the season, but Rolle in particular has a huge task of making an impression in Europe, picking up 13 and eight points from leaders Hearts and Celtic respectively.
