The Australian women’s national cricket team suffered a major blow when captain Alyssa Healy sustained a serious injury midway through the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

In Healy’s absence, Talia McGrath will carry out captaincy duties and lead the Australian team, with Beth Mooney taking over the wicket glove.

Also, with Alyssa Healy left out of the national squad, 22-year-old opener Georgia Vol is expected to join the team in her place. Australia will be hoping their captain recovers quickly as they are likely to play the semi-final match in Guwahati on October 29.

Australia undefeated in ICC Women’s World Cup 2025

Australian players enter the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup as one of the favorites and have so far played as the preeminent brand in cricket.

Australia are one of two undefeated teams in the tournament, along with England, and have already booked a place in the semi-finals of the marquee tournament.

They started the tournament with a resounding 89-point victory against New Zealand and lost the next match against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Australia then defeated Pakistan by 107 runs, India by 3 wickets and Bangladesh by 10 wickets, recording a hat-trick victory. In the match against Bangladesh, the Australians chased 199 runs in 24.5 overs, with Healy scoring 113 runs and Phoebe Litchfield scoring an unbeaten 84 runs.

We tried our best, but the results weren’t great – Alyssa Healy

In her speech after the match against Bangladesh, Alyssa Healy expressed disappointment that her plans were not carried out, but was satisfied with the two points. She elaborated:

“I think so. They played well (against Bangladesh). We gave our best and the result wasn’t great, but we were happy to get the two points. To be honest, it was very difficult and I was disappointed with our glove work today, but we made up for it a little with the bat. But we are really enjoying the challenge. We have been here for a while and we are going to a new venue. We have never been to Indore before and we have a new challenge against England coming up.”

“It was great for her (against Alana King) and it was great to see her dominate and get that reward. The players coming in have been great for us. Darcy up front was great. We’ll make changes depending on the situation and matchup. I think she was outstanding today (against Phoebe Litchfield). We pride ourselves on our professionalism. We played well today to get the two points. We’ll be back and ready for the next game.”
