Victor Wembaneyama was unstoppable in the San Antonio Spurs’ season opener.
The San Antonio Spurs recorded a 125-92 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Victor Wembaneyama led the Spurs on both ends of the floor.
In the end, Wenbanyama finished the night with 40 points, 15 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 3 blocks in just 30 minutes of playing time.
Before the start of the 2025-26 NBA season, Wenbanyama was viewed as a potential regular-season MVP.
He showed why against the Mavericks, but the job isn’t done yet. In fact, even after scoring 40 points and leading the league in rebounds, the Spurs star was apparently lifting weights in the locker room.
“Dylan Harper told us Victor was still lifting weights in the locker room after his 40-point, 15-rebound performance,” Spurs analyst Dan Weiss revealed on X.
This shows Wenbanyama’s hunger and desire to surpass his league peers. If he can stay healthy throughout the season, the Spurs star could very well win multiple individual awards.
After spending the summer with NBA legends like Kevin Garnett and Hakeem Olajuwon, one might think Wembaneyama would be satisfied with his current level.
However, instead, Wenbanyama announced that this is just the beginning as he wants to further strengthen his skill set.
“I felt like I needed to make a statement to my teammates. But it’s also a start. There are a lot of things I want to add to my game. Some things take time and need to mature,” Wenbanyama said.
Currently, Wenbanyama can run the Spurs’ scoring, defense and attack. It’s crazy to think he’s still not satisfied, and it’s certainly scary to think how much better he can be.
