Liverpool are preparing contingency plans following the death of Mohamed Salah, with reinforcement negotiations currently focused on two Premier League forwards.
According to Football Insider, the Reds are eyeing Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United) and Antoine Semenho (Bournemouth) as their main targets should Salah decide to shake up his established right-wing role at Anfield.
Liverpool are ‘monitoring’ Gordon and Semenyo as they ‘plan to sign another big-money forward’.
Gordon and Semenyo attract Liverpool’s attention
Gordon and Semenyo have performed well in the Premier League and Arne Slott’s side have a history of interest in the two players.
Salah’s future is not part of the club’s current speculation, but the Reds are currently planning for life without him after the Egyptian attacker reaches the age of 33.
Gordon is a player known for his pace and ability to involve others in play, while Semenyo is a player who, like Salah, has the ability to score goals.
Salah signed a contract extension until 2027, quelling immediate exit talks, but long-term succession plans were not ruled out.
Liverpool’s recruitment department typically works multi-period ahead and identifying a proven profile in PL who can take on the creative and scoring load fits into that model.
Newcastle’s valuation for Gordon will be quite high given his age, contract situation and importance to Howe’s set-up. Bournemouth have no incentive to sell Semenyo.
Reds start planning for life without Salah
But Liverpool’s message, according to reports, is that they are keeping a close eye on both players with an eye on the post-Salah era.
Salah’s new contract currently has no impact on Liverpool, but there is no doubt that the club’s succession plans are active.
Whether a move happens immediately or in the future will depend on evaluation and team needs.
