Roll is bullish ahead of game against KilmarnockRangers’ January transfer kitty revealed

New Rangers manager Danny Rolle will no doubt be hoping to sign a new contract in the January transfer window, but will he get his wish?

Roll is bullish ahead of game against Kilmarnock

Life at Ibrox didn’t get off to a happy start for Rolle. In the Europa League on Thursday night, the Gers team lost 3-0 away to Blanc in their first match in charge.

Despite this, the German remains in a positive mood ahead of Sunday’s crucial Scottish Premiership match at home to Kilmarnock, telling reporters the team has “full potential”.

“I see a lot of potential and what we have to improve. I think it’s very important to understand this and this is what I told the players as well. I want to see each player give everything to take this step. This is my job. I took over this job to help them develop and improve. We have to do not only as individuals but also as a group, and there is a lot we can do.”

“I think it’s tough what we have to do. If we look at the next opponent, it’s going to be another big team, but it’s about a change of direction. For me the next game is the important game and it’s Sunday now. As I said at the beginning, it doesn’t make sense for me to take a long-term view at the moment.”

“We have a game every three days, so we have to win. That’s why I help the players, the group, the coach and move forward.”

Rolle is keen to bring in players who suit his style of play as soon as possible, with previous reports suggesting Cavenagh could support Rangers with funds available over the winter.

Rangers’ January transfer kitty revealed

According to football insider‘s Pete O’Rourke, not so much. He claims that despite the fact that the 49ers Enterprise is “hoping” to spend big, it’s unlikely Rolle will have the money to spend with the Rangers in January due to the help they gave Russell Martin in the summer.

“As much as the 49ers group at Rangers would love to root for Danny Rolle, they had a great summer, let’s not forget that. They spent a net £20m and brought in a number of new signings for Russell Martin, many of whom failed to make an impression.”

“So I don’t think there’s a lot of money left in Danny Rohr’s transfer coffers and I think he’s well aware of that. I don’t think he expects a huge transfer fee to be available in January.”

This will not be music to the ears of Rangers supporters desperate to be supported as much as possible in the early days of Rolle’s reign. However, it is important that the Gers do not spend recklessly, especially while Kevin Thelwell is in charge, given that the former Everton manager has shown that he is not good at recruiting.

The onus is not always on the manager, but on whether the current players can improve dramatically, and the hope is that the new manager will get much more out of his players than Martin.
