Rueda and Dettweiler were “transported by helicopter to a local hospital”: The latest message from the MotoGP Medical Director: “Riders #99 and #55 are being transported by helicopter to a local hospital.”
Television footage shows a helicopter departing from the circuit. The race cannot be held until the doctor helicopter returns or a replacement helicopter is prepared.
A revised schedule has not yet been announced, but significant delays are expected.
Original story: The start of the 2025 Moto3 Malaysian Grand Prix has been postponed following a horrific collision between newly crowned World Champion Jose Antonio Rueda and Noah Dettweiler during a sighting lap in Sepang.
Dettweiler was traveling slowly at the edge of the track when Red Bull KTM Ajo star Rueda plowed into the rear of the CIP machine at high speed on the exit of Turn 3.
It has been suggested that Dettweiler may have had technical problems.
Treatment is currently being carried out next to the railroad tracks. The first message, broadcast live, read: “Medical Director Information | #99 Rueda and #55 Dettweiler remain conscious.”
The remaining Moto3 riders were returned to the pits due to the severity of the accident.
The distance of the Moto3 race will be reduced from 15 to 10 laps, but the revised start time has not yet been announced.
Due to the length of the delay, the Moto2 Grand Prix (scheduled to start at 1:15pm) may also be rescheduled. The MotoGP race is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Rueda, who took his 10th win of the season at Phillip Island last weekend, qualified on the outside of the front row, with Dettweiler in 21st place.
