The Philadelphia 76ers have a player with unique abilities on the court.
Following last season’s dominant performance, the Philadelphia 76ers are off to a 2-0 start in the 2025-26 season.
With Joel Embiid still on a playing time limit, players like Tyrese Maxey, Quentin Grimes and VJ Edgecomb played key roles in the strong start.
Speaking of Grimes, he recently talked about the 76ers’ star players who are impossible to play against in practice.
Grimes talked about playing against Andre Drummond in his postgame press conference following the 76ers’ 125-121 win over the Charlotte Hornets.
“He changed the game…He’s a Hall of Fame rebounder. You can’t even box him out in practice. You have to send two guys to him for rebounds,” Grimes said of Drummond.
At this point in his career, Drummond is not contributing much in the scoring department. But rebounding alone makes him an important member of the 76ers’ roster.
“He’s one of those guys that comes into the game and has a big presence and gets rebounds and makes things easy for us and goes in transition,” Grimes added.
Heading into the offseason, Drummond was one of the top free agents available, and now it’s understandable why the 76ers didn’t let him go.
As a 6-foot-11 center entering the 14th year of his career, it’s no surprise that Drummond’s best days are behind him.
After all, Drummond is a traditional center, and his style of play puts a lot of stress on a player’s body. At his peak, he led the league in rebounds four times and was selected as an All-Star twice.
On top of that, Drummond was a double-double machine. Now, Drummond’s scoring numbers are down to single digits, and so are his rebounding numbers.
So far this season, the 32-year-old veteran is averaging 3.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game for the 76ers.
