The Los Angeles are in the middle of a World Series game against the Toronto Blue Jays, but they’re missing one of the team’s most reliable players.
Left-handed relief pitcher Alex Beshear is currently away from the team due to “very personal family matters.” He hasn’t joined the since the team traveled to Toronto for the first two games of the Fall Classic.
In Game 3 of the World Series, relievers wore the number 51 on their caps to show their support for Bashear.
The announced that Beshear would not be with the team before Game 1 of the World Series, saying, “We regret that Alex Beshear is away from the team as he and his wife, Kayla, address very personal family matters. The entire organization sends our thoughts to the Beshear family and will provide an update at a later date.”
Director of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman also spoke about the issue and the team’s decision not to place Bashir on the family medical emergency list.
“We didn’t want to potentially be under any kind of pressure,” Friedman said last Friday. “This is much bigger than baseball. For us, it was about doing whatever we could to support 100%.”
Manager Dave Roberts echoed the same sentiment when discussing the World Series roster.
“I think we’re just taking it one day at a time. There’s no expectation (that Beshear will return) at all,” Roberts said.
Bashear was the ‘ most consistent reliever throughout the 2025 season, with the left-hander pitching scoreless in six of his seven postseason appearances.
