The San Antonio Spurs were appointed as the top landing site for Giannis Anteto Compo if the Milwaukee Bucks decided to entertain the trade.
The Milwaukee Bucks are expected to consider trading superstar and franchise icon Giannis Anteto Compo after losing in the first round of the NBA playoffs in their third season.
The Bucks were tied up by Damien Lillard and Kyle Kuzma.
In the possibility of trade with Greek freaks, the Bucks will need players floating around them and draft capital for the capital that can land franchise players in the upcoming season.
The San Antonio Spurs seem to be the most logical landing point.
If the Bucks decide to trade the best players, it makes sense that he will shop at the open market during the offseason and try to get the greatest return possible.
Remember, Dallas Maverick traded Luka Donsic late at night was an exception, not a rule. When it comes to draft capital, the only teams that can land Anteto Compo are the Spurs, Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Net, Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder.
“Two things you need to know about the Bucks when considering trade,” outlined ESPN’s Brian Windhorst. “Number one, the Bucks don’t control the first round pick of five years, meaning that if the Bucks trade him, they think they’ll go to the tank for the next three years and there’s no rebuilding going on.
“They need quality players, and the other thing you need to know is that if you trade Giannis for a team that will become a super team, getting that team draft assets for that team isn’t exciting as it won’t be a very expensive pick for the next few years.”
There are no winner players on the net that the Bucks want. Apart from Lauri Markanen, jazz isn’t the case either. Meanwhile, the Spurs have the heart of the young talent that can keep Milwaukee in playoff photos.
“You’ll see teams drafting assets of players and other teams that trade with you and draft assets other than yours,” he continued. “San Antonio and Houston. San Antonio and Houston. San Antonio and Houston.”
Unlike the Rockets, the Spurs have a genuine superstar to pair with Giannis.
At both ends of the floor, Giannis and Wenby become one of the most frightening duos in the league. It seems the Spurs don’t want to trade Dearon Fox and not to trade Stephen Castle’s rookie of the year.
The Bucks wouldn’t want to build a package around future Spurs draft topics with the Spurs’ potential trade. Luckily, the Spurs have many picks from other teams that can not only match pay in the form of talented young players the Bucks can rebuild, but also turn them over.
Complete mock trade details
- Spurs Received: giannis antetokounmpo
- Bucks Received: Harrison Burns, Keldon Johnson, Malachi Branham, Julian Champany, 2025 Picks (via ATL), 2025 Picks, 2027 Picks (via ATL), 2029 Picks, 2021 Swap (via SAC)
One of the best players in the world won’t get cheaper. Burns is his final season of contract and offers the Bucks much needed financial flexibility. Branham has team options, providing more flexibility, and Champagnie has signed a contract for the next two seasons, earning only $3 million a year. It’s one of the best deals in the NBA.
On top of that, the Bucks will get two lottery picks to build in the upcoming draft lottery, and two additional promising picks from the Hawks and Kings. The 2029 pick from the Spurs isn’t the hottest asset, but by then Giannis is 34 and the Spurs may take a step back.
By giving up two picks in this year’s draft, the Spurs will only hold Devin Vassel and Jeremy Sochang, keeping some key depth pieces intact, giving the Bucks a starting point for a very fast rebuild.
