Chelsea and the player reportedly decided to make a big donation to the family of late Liverpool forward Dio Gojota and his brother Andre Silva.
The pair tragically died in a car accident earlier this summer, and Liverpool and its supporters have since paid tribute to them with pre-season fixtures.
Now Chelsea appears ready to do their bit as they report that the Blues are set to donate “an equal portion of the club’s $15.5 million Club World Cup bonus fund” to support players’ families.
This is expected to reach $500,000 per player. Chelsea really makes heartwarming gestures here, during which it becomes a very painful time for all those close to Jota and his brother.
Diogo Jota’s death shook the world of football
Jota was a key player in Liverpool and was a popular figure among the dressing room and club fans, so there’s no doubt that he’ll be overlooked badly.
The former Portugal International also had a spell with the wolves in the Premier League, and they are also lamenting the former players.
Liverpool has retired from Jota’s Number 20 shirt forever. I imagine paying the respect that will be paid to him at the beginning of this season.
Compliments were held in games around the world as multiple soccer players attended the funeral of their brothers and everyone dealt with the shock of losing such a big name and popular player.
