The report says Tottenham Hotspur is currently paying attention to the shocking moves of the £23 million defender.
I’m hoping to get even deeper as a center back
Tottenham has been blessed with great options for centre-back, with Mickey Van Deben and Christian Romero nodging against Burnley on Saturday afternoon, with the duo playing their part by keeping their clean sheets in a 3-0 victory.
However, Ange Postecoglou remained a defensive option last season. Both Van de Ben and Romero spent time on the sidelines due to injuries. That means Frank might be keen to bring in another centre-back as a backup option.
Luka Vusakovic finally completed his move to north London early this summer, but the Croatians are only 18 years old and there was a suggestion that Frank would be willing to step down as a young man who left his loan agreement.
So it made sense to bring in an older defender with experience in the Premier League, with the Lily Whiteman taking part in the race with one of Frank’s former players.
This is according to a Daily Mail report that Tottenham is currently paying attention to the shocking moves of Brentford’s Nathan Collins, who joined the Wolverhampton Wanderers on a six-year deal in 2023 for £23 million.
As a result, bees are likely to be in a strong negotiating position and may be very reluctant to sell by nominating their captain earlier this summer.
Frank is said to be a defender admirer and worked with him at GTECH Community Stadium, but the Danish coach could be hesitant to sanction the move, given his much respect for his former club.
Collins may be the ideal signature for Tottenham
Tottenham’s well-documented injury issues meant that they were very lacking in centre-back options last season, with Ben Davis and Archie Gray receiving more game time than was likely expected.
However, with Davis’s contract expires next summer and Gray is still in the early stages of his career, the Spurs are able to introduce a more reliable backup option, and the Brentford captain certainly fits the bill in that regard.
The 24-year-old is currently extremely experienced at the Premier League level and appeared in all of Brentford games last season. Meanwhile, the Irishman impressed Frank, who described him as the “leader of nature.”
Collins will be featured in most minutes of Premier League outfielders in the 2024-25 campaign, and could be a great addition to Frank’s team as Tottenham needs a deeper team ahead of the Champions League campaign.
