The Boston Celtics have a new leadership group and fans hope that there will be little change.
As the quest for a back-to-back championship continues, the Boston Celtics deal with a major shift in events behind the scenes when it comes to ownership.
Wyc Grousebck, the majority owner of the team since 2002, has finally sold the team to Tech Mogul William Chisholm. Grousbeck will hold CEO duties for the next three years after Chisholm’s request and will receive a big applause from Celtics fan Bill Simmons.
With its reported value of $6.1 billion, this is the most advantageous purchase for North American sports franchises. It also surpassed Matt Ishvia’s Phoenix Suns’ successful $4 billion bid in the NBA record book two years ago.
Star player Jason Tatum is the cornerstone of the Boston franchise. From what he learned, Tatum is mostly optimistic about Chisholm taking over the Celtics.
He says he has been discussing with WYC Grouseb through the process and is behind in development.
Tatum is optimistic that the new ownership behind Chisholm will do what is necessary for the Celtics’ interests.
“I’ve spoken with WYC a few times, and he’s going to be around, he kept me up to date and said it was the next group and they said it was great for the organization,” Tatum says.
“I told WYC that everyone next person trusts him, and there’s no doubt that things will keep running smoothly.”
In addition to maintaining the NBA championship in Boston City after winning the 18th title since last year, Chisholm will make a big decision on the team’s surge in salary.
The franchise is projected to pay a $445 million salary and a luxury tax penalty for the upcoming 2025-26 season, marking the largest salary in league history. One of the main parts of this massive bill is a key role player who will occupy a $90 million heart-wrenching heart if he decides to hold him, according to ESPN experts.
Tatum admits that he doesn’t have an internal track at this early stage, but knows what’s publicly available about Chisholm.
“I mean everything you all heard,” Tatum told NBC. We asked why he encouraged him to be the new team governor at Chisholm.
“Big Boston fans, who are big Boston fans, are proud of what we have achieved and understand what the Celtics mean to the city and the NBA.”
