The Los Angeles Lakers have one of the most passionate fanbases in the NBA.
What I’m always hoping for the LA Lakers to get to the top, regardless of which team matches the playoff time coming.
However, since winning the 2020 NBA Championship, the Lakers have often faced a consistent reality check by the Denver Nuggets.
Former Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr. recently shed light on playing against Purple and Gold.
After the Lakers title was run in 2020, the organization locked the horn twice in the postseason.
Each time, Purple and Gold were handed an embarrassing defeat by Porter Jr. and the Nuggets. The Now-Brooklyn Nets star has honestly approved those fights.
“I love the series with Denver with the Lakers because they were so exciting. The Lakers fanbase always thought they could beat us, but they never did,” Porter Jr. said on Glory Days.
He added: “I’ve always had a good series against the Lakers. I loved playing against them. I don’t know what that is, but I always cooked the Lakers.
“I don’t think they had a really good matchup for me, who was about to get off the screen and stuff like that, and I was able to get to my shot.”
For context, the Nuggets swept the Lakers in the 2023 Western Conference Finals. In 2024, the Nuggets ended the Lakers’ postseason campaign, earning a 4-1 series victory in the first round itself.
During the Lakers vs. Nugget matchup, LeBron James was definitely the best player in purple and gold.
Porter Jr. is a small advancement, and he gave the honest answer to fighting the king in the playoffs.
“The team we played down the road, they had a little good matchup for me. Heading straight to LeBron in the playoffs, he’s a microcosm of the greatness of the sport,” concluded Porter Jr.
With Porter Jr. currently at the Eastern Conference, it’s unlikely to face James in the postseason. After all, Net is not a title candidate for East.
