After sending “Lion Heart” to retirement, Chinese knockout artist Min Yan Chang wants to test himself against one of the heaviest hitters in the division.
“Mountain Lion” landed his third straight finish on the Octagon at UFC Kansas City.
This victory is likely to cause Zhang to land a spot in the light heavyweight top 15, and he has not wasted time trying to spike towards the top of his weight class.
“Next battle, I want Jiri Prochazuka,” Minyang told the full submission through his translator. “I saw your fight in Singapore and you won your belt in that fight. I like your style. I respect the spirit of your warrior. Now you are no longer a champion, but I want to fight you.”
In addition to the trio of highlight reel knockouts at the UFC, Zhang banked a $50,000 performance bonus in a row.
For Prochazka, we fry fish larger than Mingyang Zhang…for now
Having won a big knockout victory over Jamahar Hill on his final outing, Prochazka is unlikely to risk the second-place rankings to fight anyone who barely sneaks into the top 15, but as MMA says, anything is possible.
Prochazka has yet to book his next outing within Octagon, but it is possible that “BJP” has scored one victory from another crack to regain the 205 pound title. Of course, he has to wait and see how things unfold as champion Magomed Ankalaev, former two division title holder Alex Pereira, runs over it and runs through it. Ankaraev surpassed “Poatan” in March and returned the title to Dagestan.
His first title defense is expected to be a rematch with “Poatan” later this year, but no official date has been announced.
