Owings Mills, Maryland – Akshay Bhatia made her ace on the 17th hole of the BMW Championship on Saturday, winning the car and increasing the chances of competing in the Tour Championship next week.
The top 30 of the FedEx Cup reached the Tour Championship, and Batia was perfect for the bubble that took part in the event on the 29th. His hole-in-one came on an intimidating 227-yard par-3 with tees and water on the right of the green. The pin was facing the green front, with a bunker on the left.
The ace won the BMW IX M70 on display next to the 17th tee. It also means that $125,000 will be passed from BMW to the Evans Scholars Foundation.
“I don’t necessarily need a new car. I’m pretty pleased with what I have,” said Batia, 23. “I think either I’ll give it to my caddy or I’ll understand something in a place where I can donate to a charity or something.”
Batia shot five over 75 in the first round on Thursday, leaving 13 strokes behind the leader. However, he shot a third round 66 on Saturday, drilling a wedge of sand from 93 yards for the par fourth. When his five irons of No. 17 rolled into the hole, it moved him further to par for the tournament.
