Akshay Bhatia withdrew from this week’s Valspar Championship on Monday at Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead course in Palm Harbor, Florida.
There was no reason for Batia to retreat.
The 23-year-old American tied third in the Player Championship on Sunday, taking a blow behind Rory McIlroy, the ultimate winner who beat JJ Spaun in the three-hole overall playoffs on Monday.
Batia’s withdrawal means avoiding playing six times in seven weeks. He will also be sitting at the Texas Children’s Houston Open next week, but is expected to defend Valero Texas’ open title the following week, just before the Masters from April 10th.
A two-time PGA Tour winner, Bhatia was the first to take part in the Drive, Chip and Put National Finals at Augusta National as a child, and later joined Masterfield. He first competed in Augusta in 2014 as a 12-year-old.
