Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer lists two potential alternatives that the magpie can sign after missing out on RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesco.
According to Athletic, Newcastle was one of the mix clubs to sign Sesco this summer, but now Manchester United is closing out.
Sesco was the top young centre forward who would have been the ideal long-term alternative for Alexander Isaac amid doubts about his future at St. James Park.
However, there are also some other decent options that could be on the market this summer, and Shearer suggests two options.
Will Newcastle move for Yoan Wissa or Ollie Watkins?
As the Daily Mirror quoted, Shearer, speaking to Betfair, nominated Joawissa and Ollie Watkins, two other top strikers that Newcastle could see.
“The situation at Wissa sounds very similar to the situation at ISAK, who is seeking a move to get what they want,” the former England International said.
“Ollie Watkins is deeply connected to other clubs, and Man United is one of them. I don’t know if there will be a deal between Newcastle and Aston Villa.
“I’m an Ollie admirer, but I don’t think Aston Villa fans and managers would appreciate me and others talking about going to their centre-for-in-the-fly clubs.”
Previous Newcastle Summer
NUFC fans will have mixed feelings so far about the club’s summer transfer period.
Anthony Elanga joined us on what appears to be a great deal from Nottingham Forest, but apart from that, it was a bit quieter at St. James Park.
It would certainly be frustrating that Eddie Howe could not bring more new additions, and missing someone like Sesco is certainly a big blow.
Losing ISAK is also very detrimental to this long-term project, and has been very advances up until now.
