Alex Marquez has revealed the advice he received from Marc Marquez on how to deal with the pressure of competing for a historic second place in the 2025 MotoGP rankings.
The Gresini Ducati rider secured second place in the 2025 standings after finishing second in the sprint at last weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix.
This marked his highest ever MotoGP championship ranking and made history as the first Marquez brothers to achieve a 1-2 finish in the rankings.
Alex Marquez had been running second for most of the year, but began to pull away from third in the second half of the season as Pecco Bagnaia started to lose his form.
At the Japanese Grand Prix, Marc Marquez won the title, and all eyes were on Alex Marquez’s fight for runner-up.
In a speech after finishing second in the championship, Alex Marquez revealed advice given to him by his brother in Japan to combat pressure.
“He said to me in Japan, ‘The people are putting a lot of pressure on you,'” he began.
“‘If you finish third, it’s the same as if I finished third (in 2024). Just don’t put pressure on yourself. You’re doing better than expected. You’re having a really good season. So just try to enjoy it.’
“And that’s exactly what I did in that race and now I’m here.
“So, I already said in a WhatsApp video call, ‘We are now in the bucket list party, because in Japan we still have to fulfill our mission,'” he said, celebrating his title.
“So now we need to throw a big party together.”
Marc Márquez will miss the remainder of the 2025 season after sustaining complex shoulder injuries in a collision at the Indonesian Grand Prix.
Therefore, he was not in Malaysia to celebrate Alex Marquez’s second place in the rankings.
But he wrote on Instagram, “We’ve grown together, we’ve had fun together, we’ve worked together, we’ve suffered together, and this year…we’ll win together! I love you, baby brother.”
Alex Marquez also won the Malaysian Grand Prix, marking his third race win of the 2025 season.
