Alexander Volkanovsky defeated Diego Lopez

Alexander Volkanovsky is once again on the throne.

In the UFC 314 main event on Saturday, Volkanovski (27-5 MMA, 14-4 UFC) defeated Diego Lopez (27-6 MMA, 6-1 UFC) in a unanimous decision (48-47, 49-46, 49-46). The vacant featherweight title fight took place at the Casey Center in Miami.

Joining the fight, the chin of Volkanovski, questions were raised about how he bouncing off consecutive knockout losses. However, from the opening bell, Volkanovski showed no fear. He marched towards the ropes in an offensive attack.

In round two he surprised Lopez with a punch in which a Brazilian-born Mexican resident flew back into the cage. But when it looked clear Volkanovsk’s round, Lopez littered the water. In the final seconds he dropped Folkanovsky and he stood up and stood up.

Volkanovski regained clear control in round three. Lopez had his strongest round in round four. He then cracked with a big uppercut on Volkanovsky, which is the pre-(and current) champion of the retreat.

In the fifth round, both men landed the nice redeem. But when the dust settled, it was a clear decision for Volkanovski to enter his second stint as champion. His first championship reign was extended from December 2019 to February 2023, including five title defense.

Volkanovski lost his title in February 2024, losing to Ilia Topuria. He later vacated the title with the intention of knockout victory and Max Holloway moving lighter.

In Lopez’s case, the loss snaps five consecutive wins. Before Saturday’s fight, he had not lost since his UFC debut in May 2023.
