The Los Angeles Lakers entered a new era as Jeannie Bass and their family sold their team for a price of $10 billion.
Dr. Jerry Bass bought the franchise for $67.5 million in 1979, and 46 years later, the Bass family reportedly agreed to sell the team to mark Walter.
There are many changes expected for the Lakers once Walter takes over the iconic franchise. Of course, fans who view Walter’s tenure as the owner of the LA Dodgers are hoping that the Lakers will have access to financial resources they have never seen before.
Lakers general manager Rob Perinka has always had a romantic relationship with his fanbase. For years, fans have expressed disappointment with Perinka by not building a better roster around the stars.
Pelinka’s deal with Luka Doncic has helped to correct his reputation, but Laker Nation still believes Walter’s entrance means trouble for him.
“Rob Perinka has lost a lot of work safety today,” wrote a Laker fan.
Another was added, but “Rob Perinka was fired today. He doesn’t know that yet and will know in a few years.”
The third fan added: “They are numbered on Rob Perinka’s day.”
“The first mistake, Rob Perinka, has him leave and I swear Mark Walter has opened that wallet for Bob Myers,” the fans suggested.
“Mark would have zero issues firing Rob if he thinks it’s the best,” another fan said boldly.
“The Lakers are likely to become a dynasty again. Now, please set Rob Perlinka on fire,” another wrote.
The consensus among Lakers fans is that their new ownership has a nonsense approach to running the team, leaving Perinka little or no mistake.
Following the Doncic deal, Pelinka has signed a multi-year contract extension and promotion as president of the team’s basketball operations.
However, it is clear that the Lakers front office is in disarray, and there is much work to do with the new ownership. This is in line with what ESPN’s Dave McMenamin wrote in a recent report.
“Who is their Andrew Friedman? Is it Bob (Myers)? Is it Masai (Ujiri)? Is it Sam Presty?” a source told ESPN’s McMenamin.
Another source said:
Simply put, the Lakers may keep Perinka in the front office, but thanks to the incredible financial support Walter brings, they will add more brains to the department.
