The Rangers Chief was boosted to film Ibrox’s hot sheets in search of a new manager.
Gerrard admits “unfinished” business in his link with Rangers
So far, one of the main candidates heading for Ibrox was former boss Gerrard. Liverpool legend has fallen out of his coaching role since January left Al-Ettifaq and has already spoken positively about his return with the Rangers.
After finishing Celtic reign when he finally stepped into Scottish football, his appointment would certainly make sense as GERS aims to repeat. Furthermore, the Liverpool legend himself recently admitted that he has “unfinished” management business after failing in the Premier League with Saudi Arabia and Aston Villa.
“I want to go another thing at some point, change some things, improve some things, get back to fresh, and there are a few different people around me.
“I love some other challenges that do this. That’s what I’m working on in the background at the moment. Some different ideas, some different people around me.
“Now I’m enjoying my family time and doing a lot of things I couldn’t do, but I feel like there’s a bit of unfinished business in that some of me want to face some more exciting challenges.”
That said, he is not the only candidate on the Rangers list. GERS also links to former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Roll and former Everton manager Sean Dish.
This is the decision that the 49ers can’t afford to be wrong after Martin’s mistake, so appointing options much closer to the house might be their answer to bounce.
Derek McInnes is currently open to work with Rangers
As reported by GivemeSport, Derek McInnes is currently accepting to join Rangers, with release clauses in current Hearts transactions that allow GERS to make potential transactions much easier. The talented manager enjoys a great start to the season with Hart, and even the top of the Scottish premiership is undefeated and two points ahead of Celtic.
After such a strong start from Hart, the big concern for the Rangers was to persuade McKins to leave, but the report suggests he is keen on the job.
His appointment is in immediate contrast to the route in which the 49ers descended to welcome Martin. Instead of heading to the looted Premier League manager, GERS welcomed managers who knew the Scottish premier better than most of the other candidates, making Hart history last month with their first Ibrox victory since 2014.
Interestingly, McInnes is represented by the same agency – Arena Sports Management – as Lennon Miller after Gers spent several months just trying to chase after Miller and miss Udinese. Perhaps the link between the two will create a path for teenagers to go back further down to Scotland.
Looking at their options, both Gerrard and McKins are Rangers standouts and should make a decision before returning from international football.
