The opening round of the 2025 British Superbike Championship at Alton Park has been cancelled.

Race 2 of the British Supersport Championship, a race scheduled for the weekend before the third and final BSB races, was red flagged when there was a multi-rider crash at the first corner.

Eleven riders were involved in the incident, and the event was stopped at 15:58 local time and then cancelled at 17:06.

It was later confirmed that two riders had died as a result of injuries.

“It was a serious and devastating incident that came out of Turn 1 at the start of the UK Supersport race,” BSB series director Stuart Higgs told TNT Sports when the cancellation was announced.

“There were 11 riders involved, and given the severity of the incident, an immediate red flag and a full medical response was naturally called.

“The medical response to that is still technically underway and as a result, we can see that the event has been cancelled and there is no better race today.”

Earlier in the day, Leon Haslam won his first BSB race since 2018.

Bradley Ray won the first race of the 2025 season on Sunday.
