LONDON – Wimbledon tennis players are fined for sworn too loudly and for sworn sportsman-like behavior and “abuse of rackets and equipment.”

An updated list of fines released Wednesday by All England Club showed 2024 men’s doubles champion Henry Patten received the biggest fine ($12,500) in the verbal abuse category.

British player and doubles partner Hari Heliovara won his first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon a year ago.

Patten was fined June 29 for explaining by multiple British media outlets that were described as allegedly oral abuse of staff members at an offsite clinic. Patten told local media he had filed an appeal that would be processed after the tournament.

Patten and Heliovara were eliminated in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Amanda Animova, who plays top-ranked Arena Sabalenka in Thursday’s semi-finals, was fined $4,000 for acting like a sportsman during her four-round victory at Linda Noskova.

French doubles player Theo Arribage was fined $7,500 for sportsman-like behaviour in Saturday’s second round defeat, and the next best, the $6,000 fine from Adrian Mannarino was also a sportsman-like behaviour in last week’s second round victory.

Overall, seven men have been fined so far. Their total is $36,000. The eight women who have been fined so far totaled $29,500.

The highest singles fine on the women’s side is $5,000, which is being levied on Elena Pridankina during the singles qualifying tournament in late June.

Chloe Pake, Hailey Baptist, male athletes Alex Bolt and Zizou Bergs were all fined for Audible Obscenity.

Colton Smith of the United States was fined $2,000 for abuse of rackets and equipment.
