The Europa League final won’t come soon for Reuben Amorim and Manchester United. The Red Devils appear to lack genuine intentions for the rest of their Premier League games, following a loss at home again on Sunday afternoon.
Heading towards West Ham United’s side, which began the day underneath the table, Old Trafford’s outfit inevitably fell into the 17th league defeat of the campaign, and then Amorim said he was left “embarrassed” by domestic displays on his struggling side.
The Jekyll and Hyde hosts garnered a 4-1 victory over the Athletic Club a few days ago following a stunning Mason Mount-inspired finale on Thursday night, but the harshness of England’s top flights seems too far for the Amorim man.
Thankfully, their upcoming showpiece opponent, Tottenham Hotspur, endures an even more disastrous season following their 20th league defeat over the weekend.
Amorim is fully aware, so even success on the continent doesn’t fix what was tough for United 2024/25.
Manuel Ugarte’s debut season
On all accounts, the decision to sell Scott McTominai last summer was Ugarte eventually replaced the Scottish star, following a £42 million switch from Palisen Jermen, as the club pursued a new, more defensively oriented midfielder.
Matminai has since scored 11 league goals as part of Napoli’s Serie A title charge, but Ugarte endured his first year at Topsiterby in Manchester, scoring a lonely league goal so far.
Although Paul Scholes was “surprising” by the standout display in a January 2-2 draw at Anfield, the Uruguayan has been stacked up on Jarrod Bowen’s clincher on Sunday in recent weeks.
As journalist Samuel Luckhurst pointed out following the 4/10 display, the 23-year-old “can handle it in Europe, but not in domestic competition.”
In fact, on these two outings, the former PSG man lost the ball in total 27 times and was swapped in the second half, showing a lack of quality that caused the ball to compare with a particular Sofian Amrabat. But like Morocco, he is an effective ball winner, as the fact that he has ranked in the top 2% of the top five league midfielders with tackles per 90 person in the last 365 days shows.

At just 23 years old, he is a well-known player Amorim spends his time together in Lisbon, and hopes that Ugarte will be able to prove the suspect wrong next season. The same cannot be said about his struggling teammate Altai Bayindeal, but it’s not time to write him down.
Man UTD Stars Amorim needs to sell
It’s not too difficult to find players who have floped at Dream Theatre these days.
But there are people who never respect tasks from off as buy-in deals are a great example. As journalist Liam Canning pointed out this season, Türkiye International was simply “terrifying” for the club.
Bayindir’s low status, signed by Fenerbahce for just £4.3 million in the summer of 2023, was evident due to his minimal role under Erik Ten Hag.
Ten Hag tries to deploy a 6-foot-6 stopper, with him making one appearance in every tournament that season, shipping 2 in a 3-2 victory in Newport County on the league 2 side in the FA Cup.
Even if Onana was heading towards AFCON obligations in January 2024, the Cameroonians actually returned early in the late so that they wouldn’t miss a Premier League match.
Fast forward to this season, the new boss Amorim handed far more opportunities, including a 4-3 loss to the Spurs in the EFL Cup, but that was a similar story for Bay Indeal.
On that outing, the 27-year-old was recognized directly from her son Hyun Min corner, revealing why she has not been able to steal the ball in the past two years or so, following a meek attempt to keep the ball out.
That was followed by his penalty shootout heroic against Arsenal in the FA Cup, but Bay Indeal still looked shaky in the early knocks of that collision, and his kicks were particularly good.
The ball’s suffering was highlighted in a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St. James Park.
Since then, Bay Indeal has admitted six on two outings against West Ham and Brentford, and apparently looked unhappy against the bees, suggesting that he behind veteran Tom Heaton is in fact United’s “third best goalkeeper.”
With a report in search of new goalkeepers suggesting Bayindir can be sold for a fee of just £6-7 million this summer – it will put an end to Manchester’s simple forgotten spell.
Yes, he always spends the night with the Emirates, but sadly, for a DUD of £35,000 a week, he has been pretty much positive about a unified shirt ever since.
