The Los Angeles have not surpassed expectations raised for them this season, but it’s just too close, at least according to the president of Andrew Friedman of the baseball business.
The offseason, which turned its attention to dealing with pitching depth, was plagued by injuries once again, and with the promise of hot bats and high-flying home runs, the certainly did a lot.
Friedman hasn’t yet sprinkled on judging potential offseason misery, but he looks forward to the postseason.

“I’ll wait until after the season,” he told Bill Shaykin of the Los Angeles Times. “The only thing we’re focusing on is these next few games and October.”
One of the biggest names in the free agency pool last year was relief pitcher Tanner Scott.
At this point in the season, Scott is famous for his slow blunt blunt instrument in his game, tied to the latest blown save (10) in MLB, but with a price tag of $72 million for four years, there are already plenty of reasons to regret it.
Scott, 31, ended his ERA+ 243 1.75 ERA campaign in 2024, ranking 143% above the league average. The Southpaw did so with a fastball speed average of 97 mph, with an average exit speed of 84.3 mph, ranked in the 100th percentile for baseball.
His ERA is 5.01 this season, and he currently ranks in the 10th percentile with average exit speed (91 mph), with his swing and miss rate dropping from 32.7 percent (92nd percentile) to 27.7 percent, to the 69th percentile.
Michael Comfort is also highly scrutinized due to production shortages, so Scott isn’t the only questionable decision from the offseason.
Last season, Comfort was batting .237 with .759 OPS as a member of the San Francisco Giants. This year, after putting in a year-long $17 million deal, Conforto has reached .194 with .632 OPS.
As Friedman said, there is no way to judge the offseason fairly until the end of the postseason. If the people who have been scrutinized all year round in October grow up, it can prove to be invaluable how 2025 is remembered in Blue.
