The Dallas Mavericks improved to 3-0 with Anthony Davis in the lineup as the team refocused on the playoff push.
The Dallas Mavericks appear to be heading towards the NBA Draft Lottery after the franchise’s injury crisis claims a season for many players. Chief of them was Kyrie Irving, whose torn ACL marked the end of hope for Dallas’ competition this season. But Anthony Davis doesn’t want to make it happen.
Davis joined the Mavericks as a key return asset in Luca Donsic’s trade. After being injured in his debut against the Houston Rockets, Davis returned to court in about six weeks. This is reportedly his decision as it was okay for him to sit down to improve his lottery position.
Instead, Davis is focusing on the NBA playoffs. He addresses questions about his return in class, allowing head coach Jason Kidd to create a game plan with Davis’ incredible skill set in mind, unlocking his teammates for more success.
This is working as Dallas is 3-0 in the game Davis plays. The Starr is aware of the impact of his victory on the court and hopes to continue offering at least the remainder of the season.
After the match, Davis spoke to the media and said he played one minute at a 28-minute limit.
The last thing Mavs wants is for Davis to get injured again. So Davis joked about Jason Kidd’s fault, emphasizing that he felt good.
“Did I do it? Ah, they have to ride J-Kidd about it, man. So I hurt. No, I feel great. I put a lot of pressure on myself.
“We’re just trying to find the rhythm, but most importantly, we got the victory…but I feel better. I feel good.”
Davis already looked like a major contributor to the Mavericks. Despite his persistent injuries and a few minutes’ limit, he won the team three times thanks to his defensive effects alone. He averages 17.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists in these games. His numbers are supposed to improve when he is completely healthy.
He has 15 points and 7 rebounds in the team’s latest victory over the Orlando Magic. If he continues to perform like this, the Mavericks have a shot that is legal to be in the postseason.
After a victory over Orlando, the Mavericks improved their record to 36-38. They are still two games under .500, but they currently have the number 9 seed in the West.
Once they hold on this place they will eliminate either the Phoenix Suns or the King of Sacramento from the postseason contest. Qualified people will play the Mavericks in a 9-10 play-in game before beating the loser of the 8th seeded 7-8 play-in game.
With a healthy supportive cast outside of Davis and Kyrie Irving, the Mavericks managed to find themselves legally at number 8. If they enter the playoffs, they will prefer their chances against the OKC Thunder in the first round, given that they are already 3-0 this season.
This is a great opportunity for Davis to prove his worth to the Mavericks fanbase. The blow of Donz’s trade begins to sink at least as he guides them through play-in and leads to historic upset against the number one seed.
