MIAMI GARDNS, Fla. — Top Seeded Alexanders Berev became the latest high-seed at the Miami Open on Wednesday, bounced back to France’s 17th seed Arthur Phil, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the rain-released men’s game.
Phil, who defeated American Francistiá Four in his previous match at the Marathon Three Setter, will face Jakubumensik in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
In the third set, Phil broke Zverev 3-3 and kept his German moving. At match point, Phil hit the ball on the left sideline, where the top seed could not be retrieved.
Phil, 20, received back treatment after the first set, but managed to win two more victories, in two hours.
“I didn’t feel good at the meeting,” Phils said. “I had a bit of a problem with my back since I was younger, so sometimes it hurts a little. I had to find the rhythm and get me more aggressive and come on the court to play the game and not let him play.
