Former Sri Lankan batsman Kaushal Silva has been appointed as the new men’s head coach of the Hong Kong National Cricket team. Sri Lanka will make his first major outing as an international coach in the upcoming Asian Cup 2025.
The Asian Cup 2025 will be held in the window in September after there was a lot of opposition from several cricket committees and sparked tensions of doubt within the Asian Cricket Council members. However, after the ACC’s annual meeting was restrained on July 24th, a formal decision was made at the 2025 Asian Cup.
One of the main opponents of the Continental Championship was the host country, India and its cricket committee, BCCI. However, citing several reasons and the opportunity to host the 2036 Olympics, they reconsidered their decision alongside the Indian government.

Kaushal Silva has appointed Hong Kong’s new head coach
Former Sri Lankan Test cricketer Kaushal Silva played for Lankan from 2011 to 2018, but although he had little international exposure, he is a top-notch cricket legend in Sri Lankan’s country, accumulating 13,932 runs in 209 matches.
Kaushal Silva’s appointment is clearly coming as part of quoting better opportunities at the 2025 Asian Cup as the team now begins preparations and the Hong Kong side’s tournament is scheduled to begin on September 9th.

Meanwhile, Kaushal Silva has also revealed his plans as a coach. “The focus is on instilling a strong work ethic and victory mentality among senior teams, identifying and nurturing fresh talent for continued growth.”
Kaushal Silva previously played coaching roles in Sri Lanka, the UK and Australia, marking his first major outing in international cricket as a 39-year-old coach.
Hong Kong’s Asian Cup 2025 schedule
Sri Lankan coach Kaushal Silva has served nationally and throughout franchise tournaments around the world. However, on his first major international outing as a head coach, he had to learn about the team first.
Hong Kong’s final mission took place in the recently completed Asia-Pacific Cricket Champions Trophy in Singapore, losing to Malaysia in the title round. Now, with Silva’s appointment, they are looking to improve the statistics from Group B. It is located there alongside Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

Eight participating teams will appear at the Asian Cup 2025
The Asian Cup 2025 will be held. This was confirmed by the Asian Cricket Council of AGM held in Dhaka. In addition to this, they also confirmed that the Asian Cup will consist of eight teams.
Information from media sources confirmed that the set of four teams was split into two groups. It features India, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates and Oman, while other groups feature Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, G and Sri Lanka.
The match is likely to take place in the United Arab Emirates, with India remaining as the official host of the Continental Championship.
