Tottenham Hotspur was interested in signing Fiorentina’s defender Dodo at the end of the season, and they did some research on the summer move.
The 26-year-old has been very good at Italian clubs this season, and he has five assists in all competitions. He can run as a fullback and winger. He was able to prove to Tottenham that they are quality squad players if they could get the deal done. South America has been linked to Newcastle in the past.
According to a report by Spanish Publication AS, Barcelona is interested in signing the Brazilian defender as well, and is in Paul’s position to secure his signature. The reported asking price is around 25 million euros, and it is fair to assume that Tottenham has the resources to close the transaction.
They have failed to sign players in the past, and this time it is still unclear whether they will be able to succeed.
Tottenham can use dodo
They can use more quality and depth in their teams, and the Brazilians could prove to be a great acquisition. He is at the peak of his strength and he may be seduced to move into the Premier League. It was a major step in his career and he is looking to establish himself as a key player for the London Club.
The 26-year-old has proven himself in Italy, and he has the physicality and technical attributes to make it work in British football as well. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can convince the defenders to take part in Barcelona’s place. South American players tend to prefer to travel to La Liga, and Barcelona is one of the largest clubs in the world.
Both clubs have the finances to continue their contracts, and may eventually move towards player preferences.
