Aston Martin has admitted liability for a minor procedural breach of the F1 cost cap.
crash net It is understood that Aston Martin has signed an approved breach agreement for the 2024 F1 cost cap following a minor procedural breach.
The problem appears to have been caused by the account being completed and ready to be signed before the deadline of March 31 last year, but no signature was received.
As soon as the correct signatures were in place, Aston Martin resubmitted the documents, including a fully audited document. The team kept the FIA informed of the situation at all times.
Although the loss of the signature was outside Aston Martin’s control and was the result of extenuating circumstances, it was not possible to provide the signature until after the deadline.
As such, the Silverstone-based team still committed a procedural breach and has admitted liability.
Officials said no penalties or fines would be imposed.
Last year’s cost cap was set at $135 million, and Aston Martin’s application was below the spending limit.
FIA delays fuel rumors
The FIA has yet to issue cost cap compliance certificates to F1 teams, increasing speculation that there may have been a breach.
The last time these were issued after September was in 2022, when both Red Bull and Aston Martin were found guilty of breaking the rules.
Red Bull was fined $7 million and reduced aerodynamic testing for exceeding the then-current $145 million cost cap, while Aston Martin was fined $450,000 for procedural violations.
There are increasing suggestions that multiple teams may be under investigation, with some reports claiming that a “significant” breach may have occurred.
F1’s governing body, the FIA, has confirmed that it has not yet completed its review of the 2024 submissions.
“The FIA’s Cost Cap Authority is finalizing its review of the 2024 submissions from teams and power unit manufacturers, with the results expected to be announced shortly,” the FIA statement said.
“The FIA does not comment on individual submissions by specific teams or power unit manufacturers. In accordance with established practice, the results of the review will be published once the evaluation of all submissions has been completed and finalized.”
