Aston Villa is considered interested in completing the “exceptional” goalkeeper’s signature this summer, and considers him an ideal alternative to Emiliano Martinez.
Martinez was able to leave Aston Villa this summer
Martinez could potentially end his time at Villa Park in the near future, following a fantastic five years at the club. Meanwhile, he also won the World Cup with Argentina.
The 32-year-old cut an emotional figure after the final home Premier League match of the season against Tottenham on May 16, further suggesting that he played his final game with the club.
Martinez has not yet officially left the villain, but the writing appears to be on the wall. That means Unai Emery needs to bring in the best “keeper” this summer.
The Lille Stopper Lucas Chevalier is mentioned as one potential option.
Aston Villa is looking at the “exceptional” £25 million goalkeeper
I’ll talk Soccer Insiderformer scout Mick Brown claimed that Aston Villa is interested in signing Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale this summer.
“If Aston Villa loses a goalkeeper, they need to be replaced. They already have a lot of targets in mind and don’t surprise them. They have a list of options to choose from. I think Aaron Ramsdale is there.
“He has this release clause in his contract. This will be relatively inexpensive and there are a lot of clubs that need goalkeepers. If Martinez leaves, they really want a top-level option to replace him, as he’s going to be a big mistake.
Ramsdale is almost certain to leave Southampton after relegation to the championship – he has a £25 million release clause on his contract – and he is an experienced player, and now has six times more experience beating Villa in the Premier League.
The 27-year-old is a five-cap England International, and he has made 89 appearances for Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta praised him together, saying:
“He’s extraordinary around the situation. Like everyone. We certainly love him more. We have him every day. We know him. We know his personality.

Aston Villa was able to bolster the middle of the summer by signing the star.
However, there is arguing that Villas should aim for a higher goal than Ramsdale, but the saint man was definitely not at Martinez’s level, and was replaced by David Raya at Arsenal for reasons. That said, there are certainly bad options and his best year could still be ahead of him.
