Austin Reeves is off to a great start this season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
With LeBron James and Luka Doncic sidelined, Austin Reeves has stepped up to help the Los Angeles Lakers.
Reaves had a career-high 51-point performance in the win over the Sacramento Kings and also scored a buzzer-beating goal against the Minnesota Timberwolves to help the Lakers get off to a 3-2 start.
By playing like an All-Star, Reeves will give the Lakers another dynamic option on offense once they return to full strength.
Reeves is off to a strong start this season, earning him a spot on the exclusive list.
Reaves averaged 34.2 points, 10.0 assists, and 5.6 rebounds in five games with the Lakers.
He now becomes the sixth player in NBA history to average at least 30 points and 10 assists per game through the first five games of the season.
Reaves joins NBA legends Oscar Robertson, Tiny Archibald, James Harden, Russell Westbrook and Nikola Jokic on that list.
The Lakers are still without James, who is suffering from sciatica, and is not expected to return until mid-November at the earliest.
But the good news is Doncic is scheduled to return. Doncic was upgraded to play Friday against the Memphis Grizzlies after missing three games with a sprained finger and contusion in his left foot.
When Doncic and Reeves started the season carrying the load for the Lakers, they were 1-1.
With Doncic back, Reaves’ scoring should drop a bit, but expect him to still be a big part of the offense.
