It sent shockwaves throughout the NBA when the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Donsic for the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis.
Luka Donsic for Anthony Davis’ trade was considered the biggest NBA trade of all time
The Los Angeles Lakers were instantly a title contender on Don Sic’s arrival, but were bittersweet as they had to lose some important pieces along the way.
Currently, Donsic, LeBron James and Austin Reeves are positioned as one of the top trios in the league that enters this season.
Doncic’s arrival was exciting for everyone involved, but it meant losing a key player.
Reaves was opened up about the trade between the young man and three podcasts Don Chic and talked about why he was difficult for him for his teammates he had lost.
However, Reaves also realized the meaning of getting a player in Doncic’s caliber.
“It was obviously hurt at the time. I had a really good relationship with Max. I had a really good relationship with the ads.
“That side, I was an advertiser for four years, Max is three, and we’ve been around every day for years. We wake up the next day. At 4am the next morning, Max left to go to Dallas.
“We got Luka and no one thought he would be traded at that age by any incredible player, a player of a generation.
“It all happens for a reason and I’m really excited about what we got.
“The first game I played in Dallas since then, I never saw anything like that in my career.”
Despite their story about their limits, the Lakers will be competing for the title for the 2025-26 season.
Don Sic appears to be the best form of his life, and the Lakers were able to make solid additions for the summer, bringing in veterans DeAndre Ayton and Marcus Smart.
James is still at 40 and plays at a high level, allowing Reeves to have a bigger year than 2026 NBA free agency.
The Lakers trade not only sets them well now, but also puts them in a great position for the future.
