Hours before they began their title defense in the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025), Islamabad United were hit by a surprising setback as Australian wicketkeeper butter Alex Carrey officially retreated from the tournament in the final moments.
Alex Carrey initially signed up for Islamabad United as a partial replacement for South Africa’s Lassi van der Dussen’s Pakistan Super League 2025. However, the Australian wicketkeeper batter has chosen to skip Pakistan Super League 10 due to domestic cricket commitment.
Alex Carrey will withdraw from PSL 2025 before Islamabad United’s season opening game
Pakistan’s Super League franchise Islamabad United confirmed the news before their opening match against Lahore Kalandas at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday, April 11th. Carrie’s absence is a blow, but Islamabad United fans can breathe a little easier as the team has confirmed Rashi van der Dussen’s return to the team.

The 10th season of the Pakistan Super League will compete against six teams in 34 exciting matches from April 11th to May 18th.
Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium will be the main venue for the season and will host 13 matches, including both the Eliminator and the Grand Finale. Rawalpindi will host 11 games on May 13th, including the very important first qualifiers. Meanwhile, Karachi and Multan will play five matches each stage.
Rassie van der Dussen available for PSL 2025
Fans will enjoy three double headers. There are two Saturdays and one Labor Day on May 1st. The team at Islamabad United have top names such as Shadab Khan, Naseem Shah, Azam Khan, Imad Wasim, Jason Holder, Matthew Short and Colin Munro.
The defending champions still look strong despite Lassi van der Dussen being back with Sam Billings, Mohammad Nawaz and Riley Meredith among others being a mix, and Alex Carey pulled out of the tournament to defend their title.
Meanwhile, Lahore Kalanders had a tough time last season in Pakistan’s Super League. They were expected to go well once they came in as two-time defending champions, but things didn’t go well. The Lahore Qalandars team led by Shaheen Afridi struggled throughout the tournament, winning only one out of 10 matches in the PSL 2024.

Lahore Kalanders are looking for a strong start in Pakistan Super League 2025
They went to the bottom of the table, which was a huge shock for the fans. Now, Curlanders hopes to bounce back hard in the upcoming PSL 2025. Key players like Fakar Zaman, Sikandar Raza, Harris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi are still firepowered enough to make a strong comeback in the arena, aiming for the third title.
Along with Fakhar, Afridi and Rauf, the defending champions include Kusal Perera, Daryl Mitchell, Sam Billings, Asif Ali, Mohammad Naeem, Zaman Khan, David Wiese, Sikandar Raza, Tom Curran, Abdullah Shafique and Rishad Hossain among the top players in the Rand.
