Barcelona began planning their succession as questions began to emerge about the long-term future of Mark Andre Ter Stegen.
La Liga is reportedly exploring goal options, with Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen appearing as a serious candidate for the ultimate success of German.
According to journalist Santi Ouna, the Catalan club is already investigating the 22-year-old who enjoyed a strong season with the Seagulls in the Premier League.
Link, which suggests that Luis Diaz could head to Catalonia, also appears to be scrutinizing the Premier League for top talent.
Although Dutch International has yet to receive a formal offer, Barcelona’s early interest suggests that he is one of the preferred long-term options.
Verbruggen joined Brighton last summer and quickly established himself as one of the most promising goalkeepers in the division.
His ability to stop shots, settle on the ball, and build from behind all has drawn admiration. His value is now thought to be around 25 million euros, according to Transfarmartt.
Prices and potential factors for Barcelona’s candidate list
Barcelona is also said to be tracking down Espanyol’s João Garcia, and the 23-year-old is considered a cheaper and immediate signature this summer, as the release clause is still active.
However, Verbruggen’s performance in the UK could put him at the top of his wish list when preparing for the 2025/26 campaign and beyond.
Writing on X, Aouna stated it “Barcelona has already asked about Verbruggen’s availability and he is currently one of the top names on their list.”
Ter Stegen remains the first option for now, but the Spanish giants clearly lay the foundation for a gradual transition in goal.
Verbruggen’s rise could also be attracting attention in the scouting divisions of other top clubs, but Barcelona’s early contacts give the advantage of heading towards the summer window.
With Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool all sniffing around Joao Pedro, the Seagulls wouldn’t want to spend another summer selling top talent, but only time knows.
