Manchester City will almost certainly overhaul their team this summer, but plans to introduce new major signatures have been smashed as Barcelona made it clear that one of their valuable players will not be selling to the upcoming Premier League Champions.
It was a disappointing season for Manchester City, and behind the scenes they decided that Pep Guardiola’s team would make a big difference. The idea is that many current players will move, which opens up opportunities for new arrivals.
And one of the signatures Manchester City has turned to is Pedri. The Barcelona midfielder is in epic form, which makes Guardiola want to raid his previous club as an alternative to the departure Kevin de Bruin, whose exit was confirmed earlier this week at the end of the season.
I don’t think Man City Blow Pedri is incompetent like Barcelona
Unfortunately, for Guardiola and Manchester City, Barcelona has made it clear that, as reported by Football Insider, they will not sell Pedri under any circumstances. La Liga Giants recently signed the 22-year-old into a new five-year contract. Therefore, despite well-documented economic issues, there is no obligation to sell.
Pedri would have been a transformative signature for Manchester City and had them as the main contenders to regain the Premier League crown that is about to lose to Liverpool. But now they need to look elsewhere and it would be fine if their plan B were to move for the senses of Bayer Leverkusen Florian Whartz.
