Aston Villa hit Newcastle United 4-1 at home in the Premier League yesterday, and BBC Pundit Pat Nevin questioned Joelinton’s performance in the game.
The Brazilian was a key player in Newcastle and contributed on both ends of the pitch throughout the season. However, he looked rather mediocre against Aston Villa, clearly avoiding getting into tackles during the game.
Nevin believes the fact that he picked up a yellow card made the player nervous when he ended up working on it. Newcastle suffered defensively against Aston Villa, and Jollington failed to make the desired impact.
“Jollington has a much less impact on the game, and that’s very pronounced,” Nevin told the BBC.
“He’s on a yellow card so I’m scared of doing another challenge. He usually had a moment to stick a tackle, but he doesn’t want another yellow so he almost jumped out of him.”
Jollington will start to bounce back
The Brazilian is fully aware of his disappointing performance and it will be interesting to see if he can bounce back strongly in future matches. He has been consistently impressed this season.
Newcastle has had an impressive season so far, and they managed to win the English League Cup. They will be desperate to secure their qualifications for the Champions League this season.
Despite their defeat against Aston Villa, they are currently third in the league table. But they can’t slip at this stage of the season. Manchester City and Chelsea have been blowing their heads, and Newcastle must aim to win the rest of the match if they want to compete in the Champions League next season.
