The controversy over the 2025 Asian Cup finals continues unabated. It has been nearly six weeks since India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final on September 28, but the Indian cricket team is yet to receive the trophy.
A strange situation unfolded after the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian cricket team refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) secretary and Pakistan’s home minister.
BCCI targets Mohsin Naqvi over Asia Cup trophy drama at ICC meeting
The Indian side had hoped to receive the trophy from either Emirates Cricket Board officials or ACC officials, but Mohsin Naqvi was adamant about taking the honour. The incident left fans and officials stunned as Indian players waited on stage until Naqvi left the venue with the trophy.

According to the latest reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will take up the issue at the ICC board meeting in Dubai this week.
The BCCI is expected to question Naqvi’s actions at the post-match ceremony and challenge his eligibility to serve as both Pakistan’s interior minister and ACC chief.
BCCI plans to raise objections to Mohsin Naqvi’s concurrent appointment at ICC board meeting
The Indian Cricket Board reportedly considers this dual role to be in violation of the ICC’s governance norms. As reported by Telecom Asia Sport, the BCCI “will draw up a list of charges against Naqvi and challenge his eligibility to hold both public and sports jobs.”
The report further suggests that the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is likely to support India’s position. Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have also deteriorated following military attacks that reportedly left three domestic athletes dead.
The incident forced Afghanistan to withdraw from a planned trifecta of war in Pakistan, further straining relations between the ACB and the PCB.
Another report in IANS said, “On Friday, all the board presidents will meet in the ICC board meeting and the Asia Cup trophy handover issue, which is yet to be resolved, will be raised there by the BCCI. Nothing has been made clear regarding the trophy handover as of now, even though a formal letter has been written to the ACC.”

Mohsin Naqvi absent from ICC meeting. PCB COO Sameer Ahmed Saeed appointed as Pakistan representative
Meanwhile, Mohsin Naqvi will not attend the ICC board meeting in Dubai on Friday. Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s interior minister, will be in Islamabad to attend the Senate meeting where the Article 27 Constitutional Amendment Bill is expected to be discussed and approved.
In his place, PCB Chief Operating Officer Sameer Ahmed Syed will represent Pakistan at the ICC meeting. Reports say Naqvi is unlikely to participate, even via video link.
Earlier, BCCI chief Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board will formally take up the issue of delay in handing over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy at the upcoming ICC quarterly meeting. The BCCI had already written a formal letter to the ACC on the matter 10 days before the ICC’s quarterly meeting, seeking an explanation for the delay in handing over the official trophy.
