Former Indian cricketer Sadagopan Ramesh is frowning over the treatment of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in his current setup. He denounced BCCI, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir for looting Rohit Sharma as Indian ODI captain.

Ramesh believes that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are under great pressure from the current Indian cricket team management despite being nominated for the ODI team for the upcoming Australian tour. India will play three ODIs in Australia starting October 19th.

On Saturday, October 4th, Shubman Gill was appointed as India’s new ODI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. It was an incredible decision considering India’s victory ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign under Rohit’s captain.

Additionally, Shreiyas Ayer was selected as India’s vice captain in ODI cricket. Following the shocking announcement, Ramesh compared the approach of Indian team managers with corporate tactics. There, employees are being subtly pressured to resign without being directly removed.

He believes that the BCCI and the state selectors create a stressful environment on the side rather than openly watching the former Indian captain.

They put extra pressure on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma: Sadagoppan Ramesh

Sadagoppan Ramesh said in a video on his YouTube channel, “I’m happy that Rohit and Virat are back, but they put extra pressure on the two. It’s going to put enough pressure on you to quit and leave yourself, not to put you in the bag directly.

In fact, both Virat and Rohit retired from Test cricket earlier this year following their poor performance in Australia at the 2024-25 border and Gavaskar trophies. They also left the T20 International after helping India lift the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the US.

With limited appearances to colours across the country, the selectors have revealed that Virat and Rohit will be chosen purely based on their performance in future games.

Sadagoppan Ramesh has questioned the Indian ODI team on the Australian tour

Meanwhile, Sadagoppan Ramesh, who was called “suspectful” on the ODI team on the Australian Tour, highlighted some positives. Ramesh noted that the only positive for the team was to appoint Shreya Aier as vice captain and include Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Shreyas Iyer is one of India’s most consistent intermediate fabrics at ODI and was captain at IPL and was impressed by everyone. Iyer led KKR to an IPL victory in 2024, and earlier this year he captained the King of Punjab for the final. The Delhi Capitals reached the final under the captain.

Ramesh said, “The only good thing they chose was to appoint Shreyas Ayer as vice captain. He showed his captain skills in the IPL, but he has to shine as an Australian batsman. That’s really important.
