The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the Committee for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be nearly trapped in the White Ball Series next month. The SLC is reportedly in discussions with BCCI to host a short whiteball series in early August. Because both boards have windows that are unusual for schedules.
The opportunity came after the postponement of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), which was supposed to be held in August. At the same time, India and Bangladesh have agreed to postpone the six-match Whiteball series, which is scheduled to take place in August.

Officials also said that the final decision will be made within the next two to three days. If approved by the BCCI, the proposed series could take place in Colombo and Candy. BCCI: I received positive feedback from SLC
Senior SLC officials have received “positive feedback from Telecom Asia Sport. Further discussions will take place in Singapore during the ICC meeting. A final decision is expected within a few days.”
On the other hand, if the series gets a green signal, it’s a double victory for Sri Lanka. The proposed match is expected not only to help the Sri Lanka cricket team prepare for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026, but also to provide much needed financial boost to the SLC.
Revenues from broadcast rights alone will bring in millions of dollars, which could help Sri Lanka’s Cricket Commission recover from recent financial tensions. Speaking about profits on the field, the islanders are still recovering from their losses in the 2-1 T20I series to Bangladesh. They were defeated for the first time by the Tigers in this format, and it was at home too.

Sri Lanka appears to bounce back from Bangladesh’s loss in the Indian series
Captain Chalis Asaranka has already urged the SLC to arrange a tougher match ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, and facing India would provide them with the ideal preparation. By playing against a team like India, Sri Lanka will test different combinations, give fringe players a chance and gain valuable match experiences in pressure situations.
In particular, both sides performed their last bilateral series in 2023, with India winning the T20IS and Sri Lanka bounced back with an ODI. The Indian cricket team is currently playing in a five-match Test series in the UK and is preparing for their fourth Test in Manchester.
