The Indian Cricket Committee (BCCI) interfered after expressing dissatisfaction with the pitch conditions of IPL 2025 after claiming that local curators were not adjusting the surface to match the home team’s playing style. The lack of a clear home advantage has become a major topic just two weeks after India’s Premier League 2025 season.
Three IPL teams – Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Kolkatanite Rider (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have raised concerns about the conditions for playing IPL 2025.
LSG, KKR and CSK favor Turner, slower than batting-friendly pitch
The controversy over the KKR pitch took a dramatic turn as Eden Gardens curator Sujan Muhaji backtracked his previous claim that he had prepared the pitch. This response comes after notable commentators Harsha Bogle and Simon Dur criticized them for not being able to match KKR’s preferences.
CSK head coach Stephen Fleming suggested dissatisfaction with Chennai’s pitching conditions, saying the franchise has no control over Chepork’s surface. Some teams believe home venues should live up to their strengths, and many prefer slow turn tracks beyond the pitch that prefer big hits.
BCCI dismisses concerns about pitch conditions for IPL 2025
BCCI has dismissed concerns about pitch conditions for IPL 2025, saying that franchises should communicate their preferences ahead of time rather than during the season. The board also added that the curators have no input from the team or players and have the final say in pitch preparation.
“The pitch has been good so far. So they may be looking for a pitch that will help bowlers more. But better communication is needed between the franchise and the curator. It cannot happen within a week of the IPL season.”
“As far as Lucknow is concerned, the square needs to be related to change the basic nature of the pitch. The pitch is essentially slower in nature. According to BCCI guidelines, good grass covering is needed to maintain itself throughout the tournament. It is the same in all other venues,” the source added.
The term “ground authority” refers to the state association responsible for maintaining the venue. The association is responsible for preparing the pitch for matches held at the stadium.
Delhi Capitals’ first two home matches dissatisfied with Vizag’s pitch conditions
The report also highlighted the Delhi Capitals’ dissatisfaction with the pitch conditions for their first two home matches at Vizag.
According to BCCI guidelines, franchises and players do not have authority over pitch preparation. Because the curator is responsible for ensuring a fair balance of seams and spin.
Although teams cannot determine pitch conditions, it is reasonable to expect a surface that matches their strengths, especially as they are carefully assembled with strategy in mind.
Curators can consider meeting the needs of franchises who have invested considerable time and resources to build their team.
