Former UFC flyweight champion Alexa Grasso will face rising contender Natalia Silva in the pivotal women’s flyweight match at UFC 315 in Montreal this Saturday. The matchup features two of the division’s most dynamic strikers, with Grasso pledging an explosive contest.
UFC 315
Alexa Grasso, from Guadalajara, Mexico, is the first Mexican woman to win a UFC title and remains one of the top talents in the category. Known for her crunchy boxing and ruthless work ethic, Grasso held the flyweight belt until last September when she was defeated by Valentina Shevchenko. Currently ranked number one, she wants to return to title competition with her statement victory.
Her opponent, Brazilian Natalia Silva, is undefeated with a 6-0 record in the UFC and is currently sitting fifth in the rankings. Silva, 28, has brought a reputation for Taekwondo’s background and flashy kicks and moves, recently defeating former champion Jessica Andrade with a dominant performance.
Alexa Grasso talks about Natalia Silva
For Alexa Grasso, this fight is a new challenge after years of preparing for Valentina Shevchenko. “It’s a big challenge. She has a background with Taekwondo. She kicks a lot, she moves a lot. I think it’s going to be a very exciting fight. She shines with her feet. I shine with her hands. Grasso said at UFC 315 Media Day.
Both fighters are at risk. Silva’s victory allowed her to secure a title shot, but Grasso is determined to prove that she remains in the elite. “It’s always like climbing a new mountain. You get to the top and realize there’s another mountain, there’s another mountain. It’s good to be a candidate again to try and fight for that place. Grasso has been added.
With the winner likely to move into title competition, Grasso vs. Silva promises to be a strike style, punch-v-kick high stakes and action-packed showcase at the top of the UFC flyweight division.
