Leeds United’s lack of attacking reinforcements at the end of the summer continues to cast a shadow on Elland Road, with club hero Jermaine Beckford making his wishes known in January.
The former Whites striker believes Harry Wilson is exactly what Daniel Farke needs and urged Leeds to go back for the Fulham winger after a deadline-day transfer fell through.
Leeds ended the game frustrated, with the squad looking to add late-attacking reinforcements but negotiations stalled and supporters worried about the goal threat and creativity across the front line.
Possibility of Harry Wilson moving in January
Subsequent internal briefings have suggested that it is possible for clubs to open in January if they can first make room in their budgets.
In an interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post, he called Wilson a “fantastic footballer” who would “perfectly suit Leeds”, praising the Wales international’s intelligence, end product and versatility up front.
Mr Beckford said:
“I like him, I like him very much. I think he’s a great football player. He’s very intelligent. He’s a great player. He’s a great player. He’s a very smart player.”
“He’s very smart on and off the ball. His positional sense is great. His distribution is great and his awareness will suit us down to the ground. That’s why we were rooting for him. I would love to see him in a Leeds shirt.”
His set-piece success will add a reliable route to goal for Leeds, who are becoming increasingly size-biased.
Leeds United need creative and wide-ranging presence
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin and others in need of his services, a creative winger who can both score and assist is big business.
Leeds’ leaders have repeatedly mentioned PSR limits and the need to sell to buy, meaning any deal is likely to be structured as a loan with obligations/options, or part of the release capital.
And while Fulham resisted late bids, they won’t be keen to sell midway through the season unless they can reinvest or fill a hole of their own.
Wilson failed to find success at Liverpool after coming through the club’s youth ranks, leaving the Merseyside club in 2022 and has since established himself at Fulham.
