They may not always be the biggest spenders, but Arsenal has made some huge signatures over the years.
For example, Viktor Gyoker arrived earlier this summer and felt it could become a needle mover. Declan Rice a few years ago didn’t cost much, but Alexis Sanchez was the real coup when he joined.
However, when it comes to headline grabbing transfers, he cannot claim MesutÖzil’s top spot, as his arrival in 2013 is one of the most memorable moments in the club’s modern history.
So fans should be happy that Mikel Arteta appears to be about to sign his Ozil.
Arsenal targets their new Özil
So far, it’s fair to say that Arsenal has had a great summer in regards to relocation. So far, new sports director Andrea Berta has added six first teams.
Additionally, while Gyoker and Martin Zubimendi are the most exciting signatures ever, the Italians made sure to fill the gaps in the rest of the teams, including Nuni Maduke, Christian Norgaard and Cristhian Mosquera.
But instead of calling it, the club now appears to be the most exciting signature potentially.
At least that’s according to a recent report from standard Dom Smith, who reaffirmed the news that Arsenal is currently in pole position to secure Eberechi Eze.
In fact, Smith revealed that club-to-club details are “all agreed” and that the Arsenal fan Crystal Palace star is ready to join North London rival Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday afternoon, but will be getting his medical care and signing a contract at some point on Friday.
He was at Gunners Academy until he was 13 years old. He was released at that point, but this is a very string of events for the Arsenal-loving player.
The British seem to cost Arsenal about £60 million, which is a lot, but perhaps a fair value for someone like Eze, especially since he could become Arteta’s Ozil.
Why is Eze likely to be the next Ozil?
Fans hope Eze’s Arsenal career will end in a better way than Ozil, but there are some important similarities between them.
The first one is related to their transfer, as little did the Germans know that they were moving to the Emirates, despite being world class players of the time, until fans were announced outside the Sky Sports News stadium.
Currently, the Crystal Palace star has not yet been officially announced, but there was a similar euphoric response from fans to David Ornstein’s surprise report, with the club chasing him last night.
That delirium was only strengthened by Fabrizio Romano’s “Here We Go” and the simple fact that Berta and Co appear to have hijacked International Star from Spurs.
In addition to the nature of the transfer, the resemblance to the former Real Madrid star is a similar sense that the 27-year-old has the same talent for being a game-changer as a gunner.

For example, despite playing on the midtable side last season, the Greenwich-born “Magician” was dubbed by Mika Richards, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists in 43 minutes, totaling just 3,303 minutes.
In other words, the £100k per week superstar was able to maintain average goal involvement every 1.72 games or every 132.12 minutes.
That’s not all, as the previous QPR Gem also proves he can handle the biggest games and biggest stages as he scored in the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals of Palace’s victory FA Cup run last season.
Ultimately, he’s not the exact same type of player, but it’s the incredible way Arsenal secured his signature, and the impact he has on this team means that Eze could be considered Arteta’s Ozil.
